Welcome to Lisbon Main Street
Small town. Big heart!
award winnersOur slogan goes a long way toward explaining why so many people in the Lisbon, Landaff and Lyman area are friends of Lisbon Main Street, Inc, and are working hard to promote downtown Lisbon, New Hampshire.

In October 2005, Lisbon Main Street was selected to participate in the New Hampshire Main Street Program, a designation which honors the organizations achievements to date and offers even support for even greater achievements in the future.

"Lisbon is probably the most prepared community of any that has ever submitted because local government, downtown property and business owners, community organizations, (and) business outside the downtown area remained finacially committed to the Lisbon revitalization efforts..."

-Michelle Talwani, public relations manager, NH Main Street Center

"We’re committed to…

Beautifying Main Street, including the scenic overlook parking area and the redesign and landscaping of Chevron Park, complete with a New England style bandstand for summer concerts.

Working with local business and home owners to beautify their Main Street buildings and yards through the Home and Business Façade Improvement grant program, as well as awards for successful property improvement projects.

Making the downtown revitalization effort a successful community partnership, by involving local residents and business owners, school groups, civic and social clubs, and the town.

Supporting AHEAD’s NeighborWorks program, to help make necessary improvements to Main St. homes, buildings, and public areas, like the Railroad Station and Chevron Park, through the coordination of volunteers and in-kind resources.

Expanding and diversifying Main Street’s economic base through educational support, networking opportunities, and business development activities.

Promoting Lisbon’s ‘big heart’ through local media and community events, including concerts at the bandstand.

Ensuring the continuation of a healthy revitalization project through consistent and creative fundraising efforts and the ongoing support of the greater Lisbon community for its mission.

Supporting an active and vibrant downtown through sponsorship and support of the Lilac Festival, Annual Pumpkin Festival, Fall Festival of the Arts, and Frostbite Follies.

Welcoming new residents and business owners to the Lisbon, Landaff, and Lyman community by personally delivering to each a ‘welcoming’ baskets, filled with local items, information, and a community directory.

The Four Point Approach

Lisbon Main Street, Inc. follows the four-point approach to downtown revitalization designed by the National Main Street program to address specific areas of concern:

Organization: works to maintain and grow support community-wide, managing fundraising efforts, recruiting and retaining volunteers, and corresponding with the membership and community.

Promotion: develops and coordinates special business and community events to attract customers and activity to Main Street and promote downtown as a unified business and community center.

Design: encourages appropriate and unified design within the downtown district by helping property and business owners restore and enhance positive elements of their property, street amenities,
commercial window displays, signage, etc.

Economic Restructuring: works to plan and diversify the present ‘mix’ within downtown by working to attract a healthy balance of retail, professional, recreation, and residential uses.

Lisbon Main Street, Inc. is a 501(c)3 organization and contributions may be tax deductible.

Over the next five years, LMS will receive $60,000 in support in the form of in-kind technical assistance from the New Hampshire Main Street Center. While this support is of great value to our economic enhancements, we receive no state or federal funding, and continue to rely on the contributions of local community partners to accomplish our goals.

Our Mission

The mission of Lisbon Main Street, Inc. is to ensure the vitality of Lisbon’s downtown by preserving, enhancing, and promoting its unique economic, social, cultural & architectural heritage.

Quotables

“Lisbon is probably the most prepared community of any that has ever submitted applications because local government, downtown property and business owners, community organizations, [and] business outside the downtown area remained financially committed to the Lisbon revitalization efforts…”

—Michele Talwani, public relations manager, NH Main Street Center

“The community has truly come together in a committed and dedicated way. This renewal started with a small group of volunteers. However, this process of surveys and community events has been so inclusive that I believe even the nearby towns’ residents are ‘psyched’”.

—a Landaff resident
